The Galerie Amelie Maison d’Art unveils the exhibition "Locus Solus", a tribute to the enchanted world of gardens inspired by Raymond Roussel. In this extraordinary park, the scholar Martial Canterel invites his friends to discover seven wonders along an initiatory journey.
Curated by Johanna Colombatti and Amélie du Chalard, the exhibition, running from September 5 to 15, 2024, is an invitation to embark on a poetic journey into an extraordinary garden, where each artwork interacts with nature.
Published in 1913, Locus Solus tells the story of a visit to the park owned by the scholar Martial Canterel, filled with curiosities: unexpected creatures, displaced objects, and unusual machines. Martial Canterel gives a tour of his sumptuous estate, Locus Solus, to a select group of friends. During a long walk, reminiscent of an initiatory journey, the illustrious scholar (an accomplished figure of the writer, the artist, or more precisely the genius as conceived by Roussel) presents, in seven stages, each of the seven wonders of this world he has designed, created, and confined within his park.
